Cat6 supports 10Gbps over 55 meters or 5Gb/s/2.5Gb/1Gb over 100 meters. Cat5e offers 2.5Gb/s or 1Gb/s up to 100 meters. Note: These specs don't directly match the OP's situation but highlight differences.
