Did you make a mistake during the installation?
Hello everyone, I set up a bootable USB for Windows 8.1 and ran into a couple of issues right away. First, the system created a reserved partition on my hard drive even though I selected the SSD as the installation spot. Will this affect boot speed? How can I ensure that partition stays on the SSD alongside the rest of Windows? Second, during BIOS setup I encountered an error when trying to activate Fast Boot—it asked me to pick the right boot drive. After some research, it appeared I installed Windows in normal mode instead of the newer UEFI version. So I reinstalled it on the SSD drive again, making sure to wipe all partitions so it just shows as unallocated space. However, a reserved partition remained on my HDD. I left it untouched because I wasn’t sure if removing it would cause problems or if deleting it would recreate the old setup. Windows installed without issues, and this time Fast Boot worked properly. Although boot times only dropped slightly—about 1-2 seconds—I’m not impressed yet. I haven’t tried ultra-fast yet, since I still want to access BIOS settings. There’s also a concern about whether the USB drive needs formatting to UEFI. My drive was NTFS, but the system handled it as if it were FAT32. Despite this, I noticed the ASRock logo appears instead of Windows on startup, and fast boot is functional. Still, I’m worried about potential errors down the line. Is there a way to keep the reserved partition on the SSD for future use? Does it really matter? Additionally, after reinstalling in UEFI mode, the CSM menu vanished from the BIOS—can I still find it? Thanks! Please share your specs if they help.
