I usually don't care if YouTube finishes my high-res uploads in the right size. But recently, the last three videos I made stopped at standard HD instead of full resolution. Two of those videos show up on the upload page with "Processing Done," yet they only let me see them in 1080p, not the original quality. Even when I tried uploading a short clip that went through fast, after a while it still didn't offer the option to view it in high definition. So I'm wondering if YouTube has broken its high-res processing, and are other people having this issue too over the last few days? Could someone try uploading a quick 1440p clip to see if they get that resolution? You don't need a big screen or fancy editing software to do this; just most video apps can make things smaller. I'd really appreciate some help with this problem. My videos were working fine back a few days ago.

Waiting is okay because options take time to appear. In my situation, it was about two hours before one of my videos actually showed up with the 1080p setting. Just give it some patience and everything will be ready soon.

I know it takes a long time, way longer than 1080p used to take, but trust me, it's MUCH slower now than before a few days ago. Also, if even a quick 30-second clip isn't getting processed all the way to 1440p right away, I have to wonder if their speed is just stuck temporarily. I'm not asking for generic or cliché answers here. I know how long 1440p takes because I've uploaded tons of those clips already. What I need is to find out if anyone else has noticed that 1440p processing on YouTube is EXTREMELY slow in the last few days, and hope someone willing to do a quick test with a 30-second clip can tell me what's going on so far. So thanks for the response, but I'm not sure that's exactly what I need. Basically, it's like telling people to install new GPU drivers even if their games aren't running well—they already know this stuff.

A very long message just to say "thanks but I already know that". Anyway, there are no official reports from Google about this issue and a quick search shows many other people are having the same problem.

Yeah, sorry if I came across as rude when you replied. But to be real? It sounded like you didn't even read my post details, where I explained I upload 1440p vids already and haven't had this problem before. Even tried a 30-second clip in that quality. I get these annoying comments all the time on my YouTube videos. The worst part is it's obvious the video description wasn't actually read by people watching them. Anyway, just want to say sorry if you saw this or thought I took things for granted or forgot how long processing takes. Thanks for letting me know about Google and Reddit forums. That didn't even occur to me at first. Actually, I did search Google and YouTube though, but I mostly only check the first page of links, so none showed up on their chat sections. Maybe there was a lot of discussion back when I last looked. Hopefully this will get fixed soon. I wonder if it's because they are upgrading or doing maintenance to make Stadia work better? I'm going to save any relevant forum threads and keep an eye out for updates. Just checked again, the thread you linked is locked now, and that's the only one about this problem left. I found several other threads on Reddit, but most of them are 1-5 years old. One came up just a few months ago though: it was a guy who resizes to 1440p like I do, asking if Google has created a new filter that catches content resized vs. captured at high resolution. I only have a 1080p screen and resize anyway to use the higher processing bitrate YouTube uses for 1440p. View: https://www.reddit.com/r/videography/com...c_blocked/

I've been having a problem lately for three days straight. I uploaded three short videos that were shot and compressed at 2.7K. Normally, YouTube would process them into HD using the VP9 codec and let you watch them at 1440p resolution. But instead, they stayed in HD but got downgraded to 1080p with the AVC codec, which means the high-quality processing is done. I then uploaded a longer video yesterday at 2.7K, and it still takes 24 hours just to finish that HD version. When I tried uploading the same file again this morning with a different title, the short videos finished HD processing, but they are only processed down to 1080p using AVC codec like before. I tried asking support on the phone, but they don't seem to get technical stuff right. Their suggestion is just to reprocess the files, which takes days, and probably won't help since there might be server issues causing problems. The VP9 code for making 1440p videos uses a lot of memory; maybe they are saving resources because of some bugs. But support people won't talk with the technical team to find out what's really going on. It feels very frustrating.

Check out this link to the YouTube community forum where other people are having the same trouble recently. I already shared my post there too, under the name John Rocheleau at this URL: https://support.google.com/youtube/threa...0511?hl=en

Thanks, yeah I tried re-uploading my file under a different name and got the same thing. I guess that's why too. They probably cut support for 1440p (and maybe even 4K) because of server issues. I don't know if their help team knows about this or just gets told to stay quiet, especially since they keep pushing people toward Stadia. Even the big tech companies with all that infrastructure can get stuck sometimes. I guess Verizon will have similar trouble when their 5G network finally fails.

I didn't get upset by your reply, so don't worry. But yeah, that's what everyone said or heard: there isn't any news out there right now. For now, all you can do is just upload your file and let the servers handle it when they are ready. Unfortunately, there aren't many choices to make about this.

Google didn't say anything if you mean real news, but there is a lot of chatter on forums from people saying it's been happening for days now. I think some of their servers at home gaming spots went down because so many are using them during the lockdowns. Steam has seen lots of activity in games like CS:GO since COVID hit.
