I manually set the fans to 20 percent for quieter browsing and forgot to switch them back to auto during games. I could have played for up to an hour instead of just 30 minutes, but I wasn’t sure if adjusting the temperature would affect performance. It wasn’t until I checked the monitor that I realized the impact on my graphics card.

It's okay. When temperatures rise too high, the GPU reduces its output to prevent overheating and safeguard itself. You'll notice a drop in maximum speed, though the GPU will still function.
