For roughly three to four years now I've been using an evga gtx 1070 with 16 GB RAM and a xeon e3-1240 v3 processor, which is a 4770 without an integrated graphics unit. Recently I purchased a used Ryzen 5 3600x for around $100, along with a motherboard and 16 GB of 3200 MHz DDR3 memory. In total I've spent about $200. I'm gaining a lot of new performance capabilities, but until I replace my GPU, my gaming stats will only improve by about 10% compared to what I've seen online. Should I have upgraded the GPU first and tried to make more use out of the old chip, or perhaps wait and upgrade both at once? Either way, I'm excited to finally switch to Ryzen since the 1000 series launch has been a big motivator.

No, it's a terrible life's choice that will bring shame upon your family name for generations to come. The stigma of moving from a Xeon to a ...a...Ryzen (ugh)..I can't even. I must shun you now. /h Kidding of course, I"m going the same route, slowly moving off my dual Xeon rig to a new Ryzen...the difference is quite remarkable. GPUs will continue to drop in price, so no rush on that. Welcome to Team Red!

So right now the CPU market is hot and the GPU market is cooling. So you will get better prices as time goes on. I rocked 1070's for years, its a really good card. But with games getting more and more complex and graphics intensive you could upgrade a part at a time. But that also comes with having to pay market price or basically being subject to whenever you can find the deal you need. So as long as you are in no rush, you can pretty much wait until each part goes for the price you want, or just wait till there is some crazy good deal on the hardware you want to upgrade to. Look for some stupid good deal like this https://www.microcenter.com/product/6499...collection All components you want and 1000$ off. Yeah you might have to check daily/weekly but when the deal comes, it will be right where you need it. Here is another deal that is on the seriously marked off side, (team blue but an incredibly good system still for the price) if you look for stuff like this you will end up getting an entire system for cheaper than you could build it yourself. https://www.microcenter.com/product/6451...-gaming-pc $1700 on Micro center, $2000 if you built it yourself. Hop on over to PC part picker and choose each component of the system you are looking to get and see if you are getting a deal or not.
