Hello. My ASUS GTX 1070 O8G is running with an I7 8700k OC at 4.7 1.25V. I tried the guide I found to overclock the GPU for the first time: www.hardocp.com/article/2016/10/05/asus_rog_strix_gefor... I followed all the settings listed on the Overclock page, especially those adjusting the voltage. When I applied them, the screen turned off and the PC froze. After rebooting, I noticed Windows had updated to a newer version. So I slightly reduced the GPU settings in GPU TWEAK. I changed the GPU clock from 1915 to 1880Mhz, and it worked.

I played Forza Horizon 3 at 4K on Ultra and saw a 10 FPS improvement. However, I started noticing that half of the screen would turn off for about 50 milliseconds every five seconds. This caused the game to freeze, so I rebooted. After that, I became concerned that something might have been damaged.

I then removed all those settings and returned to the standard Gaming or OC mode in the GPU Tweak app that came with the software. But now I’ve noticed a new issue: when opening a program, the window doesn’t appear immediately—it just appears briefly or disappears after a few seconds or a key press. Every action I make on Windows results in transparent windows for a short time. I can’t even take a screenshot because the window returns to normal instantly, and the image is captured at that moment.

I’m worried if I’ve broken the GPU or damaged its memory.

IMPORTANT EDIT: If I don’t interact with the GPU TWEAK program when the PC starts, nothing unusual happens—it runs normally and no OS transparency occurs. The GPU remains in its original settings. I began playing Horizon 3 at 4K on High settings and achieved smooth 60fps without any issues. It’s stable. However, if I use GPU Tweak, strange transparent windows appear in the OS.

What do you think happened? What should I do? Could the Windows update have caused the GPU TWEAK program to malfunction? It seems coincidental that my GPU OC attempt led to this problem.

With your setup there is really no need to overclock your gpu. If your system works fine without that program, just get rid of it. The fact is though that no matter what you do, a 1070 is not optimal for 4k gaming, Sure on some older titles you will be able to run ultra settings. On most new graphic intensive games however medium or high will be the best you can do to get a decent framerate.
Even the 1080ti struggles on ultra in some of the new titles. A 2k monitor is more suited for a gtx 1070.
Oh, and I would say that since your system works fine without that program, you gpu is fine.
