I've been using a fresh DS style controller for a month now (linked below), and everything is working fine. I switched from an older USB A to C cord that was starting to fail to a USB C to C setup for my devices. The first time I connected the new controller and adapter (linked below), it made a faint, high-pitched whine. Right away I unplugged it and it stopped responding completely. Now even the charging indicator light doesn’t work when I try it with the old charger, which still functioned before. I’m unsure if the AC adapter and cable are faulty or if something went wrong with the controller itself. I’m worried about damaging it further. What should I do to avoid this in the future? Any advice would be appreciated!

USB C offers many different versions and connectors, and the cables come in various types. You connected your controller to a charger that supports 5V, 9V, and 12V outputs, using a matching cable. Although this shouldn't occur, in practice we label it as "generic" (not necessarily a specific brand). It's possible the device didn't negotiate correctly with the charger, leading to it receiving more than 5V.

It’s understandable to feel this way. For avoiding the issue again, ensure the controller uses a charger that provides only 5V output. You wanted a device compatible with your phone’s charger, so double-check the specifications to prevent mismatches.

Use a standard USB1/2/3 adapter with a C-type connector. This is the most reliable choice.
