Diagnosis needed for Radeon HD 5850 XT not working properly.
Hi there. My HD 5850 XT isn’t showing anything. I tried some fixes and checked the board, but it looks like the issue might be with the SATA power connectors. When it powers on, the fan starts up and the chip gets warm a bit, but no display appears. I have a soldering iron, a heat gun, and a BGA kit. If anyone has any ideas or knows what’s going on, please let me know. I might be a day or two behind on my responses, sorry ahead of time. Here’s the board photo. For more detailed shots of certain parts, just ask!
It’s similar to asking why the lights come on but the engine doesn’t start—could be a dead battery, a faulty motor, problems with the electronics, or issues with the fuel system. You’ll need to check specs for the card or its parts, see if they’re getting the right voltages, and possibly look into other components like the gas pump.
He often watches diagnostic videos to understand the types of checks he performs. To spot issues, he examines the rails and isolates parts if needed. For power delivery concerns, he starts by inspecting connectors before moving to the VRM. He also employs a thermal camera to detect overheating components.
