Diagnosing a VGA issue
Diagnosing a VGA issue
Hello there,
I own a PC built about five years ago that has been functioning well until I upgraded the GPU to an RX 6700. It operated smoothly for another six months before suddenly showing random VGA errors on my motherboard. I reset the BIOS, re-seeded the RAM and GPU, discharged static, and it worked again for a week or so. After that, the same problem returned after a few more months, and now every time I power it on, I have to test it until it either works or fails completely.
I've tried several fixes:
- Switching power supplies
- Installing a different RAM stick
- Replacing the entire board
- Disconnecting everything except essentials
I initially suspected the motherboard was the culprit, but even after trying another unit, the error persisted.
Current setup:
MSI B450 Pro VHD Max
R5 3600
XFX RX 6700
16GB Team Group DarkZ 3200 CL16 RAM
Seasonic Core GC 650W (new unit)
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
This Seasonic 650 watt ps is 5 years old. The brand is Seasonic, and the advertised power is 650W. What model is it?
It has been functioning well until I upgraded the GPU to an RX 6700, which worked fine for another six months before I started encountering random VGA errors on my motherboard.
If your current GPU, after the upgrade, is an RX 6700, what GPU did you replace it with?
Also, please note that you moved this thread from the Components section to the Systems section.
The seasonic core GC650 serves as the enhanced power source prior to my previous 500w bitfenix unit. My earlier graphics card was a GTX 1650.
it turns out my GPU was responsible for this problem
which was quite unexpected and strange
it is now being sent for replacement
