Diagnose Nettop board issues (likely power or hardware problems)
Hello everyone. I own a compact PC similar to an Intel NUC that seems to fail to power up. I’m eager to repair it and run it as a mini server, even if it means getting into soldering or more advanced diagnostics. # What’s the condition? - Currently, it doesn’t turn on at all. - When plugged in with external power, it produces an odd whistling sound, even without any parts connected or pressing the power button. My friend suggested it might be linked to capacitors. - The CPU is soldered, but RAM, drives, and cooling components can be removed without affecting performance. # What was attempted before? - The previous owner tried re-soldering a part they suspected was faulty, but it didn’t resolve the issue; there’s a visible spot where a component was attached. They guessed it relates to the 3V rail (just a guess). - After taking apart and examining the board, I discovered a hole array marked 'debug1', but I’m unsure how to utilize it or if it’s functional. Any advice would be greatly appreciated to get this working again.
