Diagnose GPU upgrade issues with a solid white VGA LED on a Mobo board.
Hello everyone! I finally finished upgrading my first setup, but I ran into a problem. Here are the details of the original build and the changes I made. Original: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/luke.ario/saved/V8Vc4D Upgrade: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/luke.ario/saved/sMqMwP All the components arrived today, so I began setting everything up. ##I’ll go through each step just in case I made a mistake, but I’ve wrapped it in quotes if you want to skip it. "First things first, I powered down the computer, let it rest for a moment, turned off the power supply, and unplugged the cable from the wall. Then I removed any USB, HDMI, or DP connections to detach my machine from its desk. I took out the RX6650, loosened some CPU fans so I could access the RAM modules, removed them, and started disconnecting all the old PSU connections. As I unplugged from the previous PSU, I immediately transferred the cables to the new one, keeping some cable management intact. The CX750M includes a built-in MB and CPU cable, so I bought fresh ones from SuperNOVA for those, and switched from an 8-pin VGA cable to a 16-pin version needed for the 6650. Everything else stayed the same. After that, I installed the new RAM in the same slots I removed the old ones, placed the 7700 in, and reconnected all cables to the PSU. It looked good, so I plugged everything back in. Turned it on... No display. Checked the MOBO—VGA LED was bright white. I realized this setup had no display detected, so I tried moving the DP port (only two HDMI ports existed, so no change there except using both and just DP). Still nothing, so I double-checked my connections to make sure I didn’t damage the motherboard. I reinstalled the 6650 and everything worked perfectly again." That’s a summary of the installation process, plus some adjustments I made along the way.
Also attempted: installing the driver suggested on AMD's site and using DDU to remove outdated drivers; unsuccessful. Also tried using two VGA 8-pin cables for the card instead of a single cable with daisy-chaining; no success. Feeling confused.
Current configuration: CPU is Intel Core i5-13400F at 2.5 GHz with a 10-core processor. Cooler is Deepcool AK620 with 68.99 CFM airflow. Motherboard is MSI PRO B760M-A Wi-Fi DDR4 Micro ATX with LGA1700 socket. RAM installed is Klevv BOLT X, offering 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) at 3600 CL16. Storage includes Western Digital Blue SN570 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVMe drive. Graphics card is MSI MECH 2X OC Radeon RX 6650 XT with 8 GB VRAM. Case used is NZXT H510 Flow ATX mid-tower. Power supply is EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 GT, 1000 W, 80+ Gold certified and fully modular. Monitor options: Acer VG272 27.0", 1920x1080, 144 Hz or AOC CU34G2XP/BK 34.0", 3440x1440, 180 Hz curved display. I was unaware that VGA could be connected directly to the motherboard; I’ll check for the port and attempt it.
