Hello, I recently upgraded my setup with a Core i7 3770 non-K, kept the same CPU, added an RX 570 graphics card, installed a Radeon R9 Fury X, and mounted a new Coolermaster ML240R AIO cooler. I applied thermal paste and ensured it was seated correctly. Since the motherboard lacks a pump header, I used the SysFan 2 header for the pump fan. After rebooting, I ran Cinebench R20 to check temperatures. The results showed an immediate spike to 105°C according to MSI Afterburner, while all cores stayed at 3.6 GHz. The pump tubes were vibrating, indicating proper function. Despite the high readings, the radiator and water block remained cool, resulting in a Cinebench score of 1,296. I’m unsure what to do next—whether the cooler is failing or if MSI Afterburner is misreading the data.
Executed Coretemp then rerun cinebench 20; it completed at 105°C almost immediately without throttling, maintaining a steady 3.6 GHz.
If it jumps to 105 right away, it means the cooler wasn’t installed correctly or there wasn’t enough thermal paste during reinstallation, even though you’re confident the pump functions properly.
The i7 is built to reduce performance when temperatures reach 105 degrees, which suggests it might be a software issue. If it doesn’t throttle, the data could be inaccurate.
It performed better at lower temperatures when I used a heatsink with a 120mm fan, suggesting the paste might be the issue.
