Needs assistance fixing motherboard upgrade on Plex server (Windows 10 Pro). Purchased a new ASUS P8Z77-V LK from eBay. Previously had an i7-3770 on a refurbished motherboard with no name. Current system still functions. Planning to upgrade for more hard drive connections. Experienced CPU turbo issue: Max was 3.4GHz, possibly due to upgraded chipset for that speed. Problem: Asus board lights up during POST. No BIOS splash screen—integrated graphics via HDMI. After pressing mem ok, it follows a test sequence in OM to find a bootable profile. Once complete, light stabilizes and reboot stops. No beeps from motherboard to guide. Tested various RAM brands and capacities (XPG 8GB stick, G.Skill 4/8GB, Viper 8GB). Swapped I7-3770 for I3-3240 without success. Used two different power supplies. Seeking advice—any suggestions? Thanks ahead.

I have a setup with ram installed in the correct slots, especially if dual slots are used in blue lanes. I'm running a KVR16LN11/8 Kingston (2*8Gb). It works on the 3rd generation but not on the 2nd, which needs 1333Mhz. Also, make sure your CPU power connectors are securely connected. There was an instance where I didn't properly click the PSU connections, resulting in similar issues.

Have you attempted to reset the CMOS and assign just one stick to the second nearest slot near the CPU?

I've checked all the slots, but those were the first RAM slots (blue) I used. I'm almost certain I clicked them correctly, though I'll verify. I just removed the motherboard and am attempting to install my old Plex configuration. I need to restore the Plex server backup. I'll retest in about 10 minutes outside a case.

I'll attempt to reset the CMOS once more. Maybe I wasn't patient enough. I did use one stick near the CPU in the blue second position, but it didn't help.

I only adjusted the removal of the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and cooler outside the case. I used a spare power supply I tested earlier, and the computer started booting fine. It’s still working well now. I’ll check if the BIOS needs an update and put it back in the Plex case later. Thanks!

System functioned outside the case, unsure of any changes. Installation back into the case planned; will confirm if issues arise again.
