Hello, this is my first time reaching out with a somewhat new issue here.
I really enjoy Diablo II and have been eager to try it on Windows 10. It has now worked on Windows 10, but I've applied the latest patch version 1.14d, which Blizzard released as the final update available so far.
A few years ago my audio was functioning, but I wasn’t sure how to get it back.
Currently, the game is completely silent.
I’ve tried several troubleshooting steps that I thought would help, but nothing worked. Here’s a detailed list of what I attempted:

- Confirmed that sound functionality was active.
- Turned off any other audio devices I believed might be conflicting (like Realtek), which included disabling NVIDIA Sound and the Dell monitor’s HD audio.
- Disabled numerous ports on the motherboard, except for the rear green port.
- Enabled only the rear green audio output.
- Activated Compatibility Mode in Windows 10.
- Used Compatibility settings across all versions of Windows, which generally failed to launch the game.
- Unchecked the option in Sound Settings that allowed apps to control the sound driver.
- Reinstalled and reinstalled dsound.dll from the Diablo II folder.
- Attempted to register the DLL file, but it didn’t resolve the issue.
- Ran DSIM.exe to repair corrupted files.
- Experimented with adjusting volume settings in the volume mixer.
- Ensured the sound wasn’t muted and set the in-game volume level.
- Used the shortcut target bar with -sndbkg.

At this stage, I’m running out of options except possibly using a virtual machine, but I’m not very comfortable with that kind of setup.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For reference, my system details: Windows 10 Build 18363 Home.

DIABLO 2' Remaster Rumors "Resurrected" by Suspicious New Leaks The issues with both D1 and D2 involve a remaster that needs to be rendered in 1080p+ which demands a full rewrite of the AI and engine overhaul 😕 While it might seem worthwhile, it doesn't justify the cost when new games could be released. Median XL is a positive step, and once Bliz removes the DRM lock, others will likely tackle a proper AI fix for an upgraded version.

I decided to give up and try Median XL. It really changed things and has a lively community behind it. The US servers might be less busy than Bliz, but the quality of life and extra features make it worthwhile.

I've just set up Median XL and it's performing perfectly. I suppose this is just what it needs to happen. It's disappointing that Blizzard hasn't made an effort to ensure one of their best-selling titles runs smoothly on current operating systems. They handle Starcraft, WoW, and even Diablo II well. Moving Diablo 1 to GOG was a smart move, but I hope they apply the same approach to Diablo II instead of forcing people to pay $20 for a game that might not run properly on modern devices. Disrespectful indeed.
