Diablo 4
Diablo 4
From what I found on Reddit, the launch was a bit chaotic. There were only 20 skins that didn’t add much value, unlike the 20$ horse from Skyrim. The servers don’t run all the time, so you might get disconnected sometimes, and there isn’t an offline mode. It seems there are more microtransactions involved, but I’ll need to verify further.
Weird... I haven't experienced any connection problems. I noticed the microtransactions but don't mind spending $24.99 on armor skins even though they look great. From here it's been mostly smooth, although I've only played a few hours each day so perhaps I've avoided the bullets. The game has a WoW vibe which is nice. A lot of the same content as before. In WoW my main characters were mage/priest/warlock and my caster class preferences have carried over to D4.
I reached level 33 with my Sorcerer last night on Tier 2 difficulty... and she's rapidly gaining strength. I currently possess three legendary items—two that boost my damage and one that heals me when I take damage. Those items are really useful for a DPS character.
Next up will be the Necromancer class. After that... I'm not sure.
I've spent time on side quests and story missions and I'm really enjoying it. I'm planning to finish the mount quest this weekend. I've preordered, so my flaming steed is already waiting in the stable.
Enthusiastic about 1 and 2 but not into 3. Already got the D2 resurrected. Probably won't buy another Diablo game soon. The original D2 has some great mods made for it. I don't think we'll see those for D2R, which isn't cool.
I'm not a ladder player or competitive in that way, so it would be pretty relaxed. I expect the price to drop before then.
You don't mention if it's 3d this time? Or is it still top down?
Don't get angry when I say this but I understand it's a great game, though back then only people played Diablo (top down) since their computers couldn't run a 3d version, that's the truth!
Learning that folks are intentionally designing it specifically for Diablo's newest update.
Diablo 2 and later titles are developed using 3D engines, yet they remain top-down isometric style Action RPGs. I believe Diablo 1 was primarily sprite-based, though I might need to verify that. The main highlight was the procedurally generated maps, which contributed to good replay value. The original concept was a more conventional turn-based game, and they transformed it into a real-time experience in a single night (Wikipedia doesn’t detail the technical aspects, and I’m too lazy to explore further). Adding random loot drops definitely boosts replayability.
Back then I played two online games... Diablo and Ultima Online. Both were top-down... I agree. The main story and side quests are quite a lot to handle... and it really helps when the game provides three godly legendary items. I'm actually enjoying destroying mobs in D4 more than I ever did in WoW as a mage. The storyline and voice acting are also great.
Diablo 2 lacks side quests if you prefer not to do them. The main story is the only focus, with a few optional tasks available. (About six per act, except four which have three due to being the game's end before the LOD expansion.) The speed-running scene is strong in Diablo 2, though the skill system seemed too basic. I didn’t finish the main campaign there, and we joined a group instead.
In D2 they introduced a fresh race together with a special skin, something really appealing; I would have enjoyed seeing it in D4.
