Hello and joyful season to everyone! Today I received my Christmas presents, including the AMD/ATI FirePro W4100 I was looking for for my PC. My goal is to enable PCIe Passthrough with a Windows 11 VM so I can run some native non-Linux games on my 6900XT while using the W4100 to handle the rest of my side monitors. So far, I've faced minimal problems—after installing the GPU into the remaining slot on my MOBO, Linux recognized it instantly and started working without issues. My desktop environment (KDE Plasma 5.26.4) and layout remain unchanged, and the monitors are maintaining their 60Hz refresh rates perfectly. The only hiccup I've encountered is a brief freeze of the entire system minus the mouse cursor after booting up, lasting about 30 seconds. It looks like my desktop environment might be crashing, possibly due to a driver issue. I noticed yesterday an update to the firmware for the AMD graphics package, so it could be related. Overall, this isn’t a major concern—I’ve already tried Cyberpunk 2077 at full settings and Minecraft with ray tracing, and both ran smoothly without frame drops or crashes, just freezing after login. Below is the neofetch output right after turning on the new GPU. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a wonderful holiday season!

It might be that interrupts are being triggered by the GPUs until a timeout occurs; identifying the cause is challenging. If GPU involvement is suspected, run dmesg | grep gpu to view recent GPU-related kernel messages after the last reboot.

I get: dmesg: read kernel buffer failed: Operation not permitted That's all I got, which is weird, was kind of expecting more. But I'll do some digging on this, the only reason I asked here was to get a start on something vague that I can't seem to find other help for. Thank you, I really appreciate it. EDIT: Oh wait nevermind, apparently DMESG now requires root, ran that and got the following: [ 3.428089] [drm] GART: num cpu pages 524288, num gpu pages 524288 [ 3.465008] radeon 0000:05:00.0: fence driver on ring 0 use gpu addr 0x0000000080000c00 [ 3.465009] radeon 0000:05:00.0: fence driver on ring 1 use gpu addr 0x0000000080000c04 [ 3.465010] radeon 0000:05:00.0: fence driver on ring 2 use gpu addr 0x0000000080000c08 [ 3.465011] radeon 0000:05:00.0: fence driver on ring 3 use gpu addr 0x0000000080000c0c [ 3.465011] radeon 0000:05:00.0: fence driver on ring 4 use gpu addr 0x0000000080000c10 [ 3.465428] radeon 0000:05:00.0: fence driver on ring 5 use gpu addr 0x0000000000075a18 [ 3.485490] radeon 0000:05:00.0: fence driver on ring 6 use gpu addr 0x0000000080000c18 [ 3.485492] radeon 0000:05:00.0: fence driver on ring 7 use gpu addr 0x0000000080000c1c [ 4.025296] [drm] amdgpu kernel modesetting enabled. Uncertain about the exact situation, but it looks like the issue resolved on its own. Every time I restart my system—especially during GPU passthrough setup with vfio-pci—it no longer occurs. I’m not sure what exactly changed, but I’m fine. This seems to happen repeatedly in Linux, where problems often disappear by themselves. Your guidance provided a helpful starting point, so I appreciate your support. Thanks!
