You needed both power cables from the PSU to the graphics card from the beginning. Avoid using the 8+8 pin daisy chain setup. If your PSU has an extra spare, install that one.

I believe the results were still lacking depth. The GPU came with two 8-pin PCIe cables, but one was defective. I swapped it out for a replacement from the power supply case.
