Have you attempted fixing the issue using the screwdriver technique? Adjusting the power while linking the two pins on your motherboard, bypassing the case altogether? (not focusing on the motherboard startup button)

It might cause damage to the circuit board during testing. Try disconnecting the power connector from the mainboard and briefly interrupt the supply to stop it. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, reinstall or update the chipset drivers.

The setup works fine when turned on, but it keeps running and needs to be powered off via the supply.

You're turning it off using the power button. This is how Windows handles shutdown.

these match each other. identify pwr_sw typically found in the top-left two pins of the connector for power button, power LED, hdd LED, and speakers.

I tried a quick hit with a knife, and a screwdriver also did the job just as well. Just go for the core of your PC.
