You're seeking a way to deploy a router such as pfSense using virtualization or native execution on a spare machine, preferably with caching support. I've experimented with Lancache in various setups but haven't had success. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You're not convinced about the benefits yet; it seems a larger pipe from your ISP would be more advantageous. However, consider trying a user-friendly option—otherwise, PFSense or manual Squid setup might be necessary.
