My setup includes a 11700K CPU, a Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Pro AX motherboard, 64GB G.Skill Ripjaws V RAM (F4-3600C18D-64GVK). I’ve been assembling this system since early 2021 due to budget limits, but it’s now functional. Recently, after months of stable operation, I attempted upgrades—rewiring drives, adding a sound card, reinstalling a RAID card, updating BIOS. I encountered boot errors flagged by the BIOS, preventing further attempts without BIOS intervention or a full reset. Testing suggested the issue might lie in RAM, specifically exceeding the JEDEC standard of 2666. While XMP booting works sporadically, most runs fail after a reboot. I adjusted RAM speed settings and voltage manually, but nothing resolved the problem. The motherboard seems stable at 2666, yet it rejects higher speeds, making me suspect a hardware limitation. I’m concerned about the build’s reliability and wonder if others have encountered similar issues or have suggestions. I’m hoping to get the RAM back to XMP performance, as it worked well until recently.
I've been struggling to figure this out whenever I can. The system keeps refusing to boot with XMP enabled most of the time, but today it works fine after several restarts. Removing a RAM stick and seeing it function seems to depend on which stick you test. I've run Memtest86 and Memtest86+ while XMP is active, but except for one time, they report no errors. It's frustrating when a problem appears suddenly and then disappears completely. How do I begin diagnosing these unpredictable issues that sometimes work and other times don't?
