Hello everyone, the issue started when I was re-encoding a video file on my PC. It caused the CPU to reach maximum usage and generated excessive heat, reaching temperatures between 85 and 90 degrees Celsius. The machine shut down completely afterward. After some investigation, it seems the faulty PSU was the cause. Although I received a replacement soon after, the problem continues—my new PSU is functioning fine on my parents’ system, but using another CPU didn’t resolve it. I’m quite confident the motherboard is the culprit. Since I can’t afford a new one, I’m considering repairing it myself. My motherboard model is G41T-M7, with an Xeon X5460 socket and a 650M PSU from Rosewill Capstone.

I recognize the issue with my current setup, but I prefer not to bring it up since others often dismiss it by suggesting a newer system. Let's explore alternatives instead.

I don't hold any grudges. The setup includes two pins with printed labels indicating CLRCT or CMOS. Jump the pins for ten seconds. You also have the choice to remove the battery. For older systems, replacement is recommended. Once you've completed the jump and reinstalled a fresh battery, check if it functions properly. Gs, usually found in the lower right corner.

It's the closest available, right by a USB port on the back panel.

It seems I finally gave up after repeatedly trying to power it on, since it doesn’t even start for a fraction of a second anymore. Edit: The CMOS jumper was placed incorrectly, which apparently blocks booting; once corrected, the issue returned. It powers off almost instantly after turning on.

It's not possible to repair it. The situation is really bad. Plus, the 771 platform is quite old, making this a solid reason to upgrade.
