Device search on Asus doesn't locate the next router or the primary router.
I possess an Asus RT-AX58U as my primary router linked to the modem. To gain a second Wi-Fi area I acquired the Asus RT-AC66U. I connected it to the main router using a CAT cable and set up a computer on the secondary device. The connection is functional. I need to adjust its settings. It isn’t reachable through the standard IP address (192.168.1.1 as noted in the manual) and Asus Device Discovery isn’t locating it either. (Discovery only sees my main router.) I reset the device without success. My guess is the main router is concealing it and requires a configuration change, but I’m unsure what to modify. I tested NMAP but couldn’t identify anything—even my main router—but I have no clear direction. I believe the secondary router’s IP appears in the main router’s network map, yet entering it doesn’t work. I also attempted to reach it from the computer downstream without success. Are there any other steps or clues I should explore? Edit: this router, similar to the main one, is a reconditioned unit and was left bare except for power supplies, so it might have been previously configured by someone else. Resetting should have restored it, unless there’s an undocumented option.)
I located it. I could "see" the secondary router from the machine linked to it. But I relied on the discovery tool to determine its IP address. With that IP, I can reach it via a computer connected to my main router (linked to the ISP modem). It wasn't too complicated if you remember the IPs. Unfortunately, the Asus guides don't seem reliable. Now I'm ready to configure the AIMesh...
