System details for ASUS TUF X870-P include AMD Ryzen 9950X Silverstone HelA 850R, Corsair Vengance DDR5 4x16 (64G total) at 6000MHz CL28 with EXPO1 preset. It runs Gigabyte Vision OC and is paired with a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and 12 GB OS disk (500GB WD Blue). Operating system is Ubuntu 24.04, first AMD build. I’m experiencing frequent intermittent restarts while performing tasks like code compilation, running Factorio, or browsing the web. The process feels like a reset button being pressed during operation. Initially, resets occurred every 15 minutes under load, but that changed after replacing the sense pins on the PSU—those pins were likely connected to the 28-pin connector and not removed. After installing a new PSU, resets now happen at irregular intervals based on workload. When the machine was idle overnight, it reset multiple times. Dmesg logs only mention NVIDIA driver issues, which also appeared on the Intel model I brought in. My concern is whether the CPU voltage drop triggered a system reset, possibly due to timing issues. I’m cautious about replacing the PSU unless necessary, as I’ve had trouble finding a reliable new one, and I’m also considering memory configuration problems with dual-channel high-speed RAM.

Did you attempt to run without using the GPU? You might be seeing power surges from the GPU, causing the PSU to enter protection mode. This could mean you require a more powerful PSU to support your CPU and GPU together.

The system should not exceed a maximum TDP of nearly 700 watts; I thought 850 would suffice. The PCPartPicker might be inaccurate by such a wide range.
