I've encountered several unusual issues with my ASUS ROG Flow X13 (specs below) starting this week. The trouble began when launching Android Studio and the machine would freeze. It wouldn't thaw itself, so I powered it off before attempting a restart. Even after a few attempts, it didn't fully reboot. Once it did restart, everything functioned normally except for occasional freezes—usually only when running specific applications.

When it first powers up, it operates smoothly except for brief freezing episodes, which don't occur while using the same programs. However, on Wednesday, after putting the PC in a backpack (inside a sleeve), it didn't shut down completely but instead restarted immediately when power was restored. This might have happened before Wednesday, though I only noticed it after removing it from my bag and seeing it overheat.

In Windows Start Menu, pressing Shutdown seems to cause the laptop to turn off, the side light to dim, fans to stop, then restart fully with full power—though the screen remains dark. Another odd occurrence is that when the PC isn't fully on but needs a few seconds of holding the power button, the motherboard emits a faint whirring sound. If you just hover your finger over the fingerprint reader without pressing, the noise intensifies.

Additionally, the clock display never syncs after it powers back on. A workaround I discovered that resolved the shutdown issue was pressing Shutdown in Windows and holding the power button for 10–12 seconds, which caused a complete shutdown. On Thursday, after installing all pending updates (BIOS, Windows, drivers), the laptop still had significant problems—even after forcing a restart.

After the updates, the issues persisted, consuming about three to four hours of troubleshooting. Today (Saturday), I tried disabling some advanced startup features in Windows, but it didn't help much. The laptop often fails to shut down completely, even when forced to restart.

TL;DR: It occasionally freezes, struggles to turn off properly, and has difficulty shutting down entirely. There are several strange behaviors observed.

Specs: ASUS ROG Flow X13 (AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS with 3050ti, model GV301QE-K6229T). Never overclocked; mostly used in silent mode. Charger is the only one used. Motherboard has failed once before (Sept 2021) and was replaced under warranty.

OS: Windows 10 Home (64-bit), version 21H2, OS build 19044.1706.

Additional note: Running WSL2 with Ubuntu on the laptop hasn't caused problems since installation in January.

It definitely has a scent similar to a service warranty.
