Device not turning on due to USB HDD issue.
Hey there, looking for some advice here. I recently purchased a recertified WD Elements USB hard drive a few months ago, planning to replace it but realized it lacks standard SATA connectors. That stopped the idea in its tracks, and now it’s settled with USB. The problem is that when I connect the drive, my PC powers on instantly, then shuts down. If I disconnect the USB cable and turn it on again, it boots up properly and works fine—even after a couple of presses.
Here are the specs: GameMax RPG Rampage 850W, Gigabyte B450, AORUS PRO Ryzen 5 5600X, Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB, MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT, MECH 2X, 12GB Crucial P2, 500GB M.2, and 1TB M.2. I don’t have any mechanical drives besides this USB one, so there’s no big power draw when the PC starts. This issue occurs with every USB port, rear motherboard interface, and front panel setup I’ve tried.
