Hi, I haven't used my computer for a while and then turned it on to install updates for some Steam games. While updating, the machine suddenly shut down and restarted itself, eventually powering off completely. Recently, it has been turning back on briefly after being plugged in again (about 0.1 second), but it's now unresponsive. I've checked all connections and still nothing changed. I tried shorting the PSU with a paper clip after removing it; the power stayed on and was stable. A multimeter showed normal voltages on both the motherboard and CPU cables. Now I suspect the motherboard might be dead. I just wanted to verify my assumption and see if there are other tests I can run to check for issues beyond the board. I briefly inspected the motherboard and didn't find any obvious problems with the capacitors. Thanks for your help. I’ve been investigating further after posting my issue. It seems the machine powers off if the CPU cable isn’t connected, yet it becomes unresponsive when I attempt to turn it on again. When the power cycle is initiated with just the 24-pin connector, the motherboard lights and CPU cooler light activate. Voltage checks for the cable look normal. I’m planning to examine the CPU pins next, though I haven’t replaced the CPU in seven years and didn’t expect any damage.
