Hey everyone, I’m not sure if anyone can assist, but I decided to try a bit of trial and error. Here’s the scenario: In a few months, I’ll be installing a Freena system on an old computer—specs include an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ with 1TB storage (two WD Red 1TB drives in RAID 1 for backup). I’ve been testing it on a single drive. The issue is that the system uses the whole drive, and since I only have one drive to test, I intended to boot from USB. But after installing the OS and rebooting, the computer freezes and doesn’t respond to any key presses, making it impossible to access setup or the boot menu. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

USB flash drives aren't built to run an operating system, so your problem might stem from several factors. For example, plugging it into a USB 3 port often means it won’t be detected until you open the OS. Another possibility is that the drive isn’t large enough to hold the entire OS and additional files. These issues can lead to various complications. A simpler solution would be to purchase a used drive with at least 320GB of space for your needs.

USB flash drives aren't built to run an operating system, so your problem might stem from several factors. Many users have successfully used them. For example, connecting it via a USB 3 header often requires OS installation. You likely didn’t check the motherboard—probably no USB 3 port here. Another possibility is the drive isn’t large enough to hold the full OS. I used an 8GB drive and FreeFile doesn’t require much space for its OS. Various issues can arise from these scenarios. It would be simpler to purchase a pre-owned drive with ample space instead. I’m not confident in second-hand products.

Could be related to the USB stick model you're using. The issue appears consistently with EMTEC sticks, but works when installing on TDK or SanDisk devices.

I attempted to use a 32GB SanDisk flash drive, a 16GB PNY flash drive, and an 8GB Dana-Elite flash drive.

I'm preparing the USB stick for storage or transfer purposes.
