Device not recognized following GTX 1080 upgrade to RTX 4070 Ti
I use an ultrawide display (no built-in speakers) connected through DisplayPort, and a HDMI receiver that appears as a secondary monitor. About a year ago I needed to change the cable from HDMI to DisplayPort for the receiver, but it worked fine. Recently I replaced my GTX 1080 with an RTX 4070 Ti, but the Nvidia Control Panel indicates my monitor is the only audio-capable device connected (it lacks a speaker). In the Sound control panel, playing any audio shows green sound bars next to my monitor. I also see three other NVIDIA HD Audio devices displaying 'Not plugged in' (though the card has two HDMI and three DP ports, totaling five). I’m running Windows 11 64-bit, AMD 5900X, 32GB RAM, and an 800W power supply. I’m using the newest Nvidia drivers and all Windows updates. I attempted a clean driver install, tried both HDMI and HDMI to DP cables, changed port connections, swapped monitor and receiver ports, and verified the HD Audio is enabled in BIOS. The audio driver was already up to date and functioning well with the GTX 1080. After a fresh install, the receiver appeared in the Sound control panel but not the monitor, while the NVIDIA panel still listed the monitor and not the receiver. I was still unable to play sound. After another reboot, the receiver disappeared and the monitor reappeared as a sound device. Could you suggest anything else? Thanks.
Have you tried DDU to replace the old 1080 drivers? It could be a good idea. Just run DDU on both cards and reinstall the 4070, though there might still be driver issues if the 1080 drivers weren’t fully removed.
Open the Windows settings panel, choose the source and outputs section, and pick the desired items. Your motherboard includes sound settings for the GPU, but you’ll also need to specify which options Windows should use for optimal performance.
Sorry to hear this. The setup only displays your monitor as an option. You ran DDU twice in normal mode and installed drivers from scratch. Initially the problem persisted, but after enabling the receiver under 'Set up multiple displays' in the Nvidia Control Panel, it appeared as an audio device. Thank you for your patience!
