I handle my work in a shared office space equipped with 802.1x security. I’m not familiar with the setup details, but I’m trying to test IoT devices on Ethernet that don’t support 802.1x. I need a way to have a switch authenticate devices before granting internet access to others. Any suggestions?

The best approach is to implement MAC authentication using 802.1x within the 802.1x framework. Devices that don’t support 802.1x have their MAC addresses added to the RADIUS server, while switches handle 802.1x based on the MACs they detect on ports. If you have the necessary network admin approval, using a router instead of a switch makes sense. Running 802.1x as a client on a WAN port is unusual, but Mikrotik might offer suitable solutions. Other options aren’t clear at the moment.
