I have an older Dell XPS that my brother inherited after upgrading to a newer model. When it starts up, it displays an error saying the TPM device isn't detected. I've tried resetting the BIOS, updating it, and adjusting all BIOS settings, but it still shows the same warning and requires pressing C to proceed. I've searched online for solutions but haven't found a fix yet. Any suggestions?
Yes, you checked the TPM configuration in the BIOS/UEFI settings.
I encountered a problem with my XPS 15 9570 around an hour ago. It was using a new motherboard with the i9-8950HK from early June 2025. My original i7-8750H board failed on May 28, 2025 because the capacitor burned and also got damaged near the F5 key. Before that, I pressed the power button for 25 seconds to reset the RTC CMOS, but it didn’t solve the issue. The solution I found didn’t require opening the case. I saw a guide in the XPS 15 9560 thread here: https://www.dell.com/community/en/conver...a8de357c51. It outlined steps like unplugging the AC adapter, waiting a minute, holding Ctrl+ESC while reinserting it, and then accessing BIOS Recovery to reset the BIOS. In my case, I skipped step 4 and chose Cancel, which fixed the problem. This restored the missing TPM setting in the BIOS Security section.
The laptop runs a 7th generation Intel processor that isn't compatible with Windows 11. However, you'll need the TPM to activate BitLocker even if you're using Windows 10 (Pro or Enterprise). Consider updating the TPM firmware to potentially restore functionality. You can find more details here: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/...560-laptop
