Hi, I’ve been using this motherboard for several years. I’m upgrading from an AMD Athlon II X4 630 with 2x2GB RAM, a PC2 6400 (DDR2 800), a 460GB HD 580W PSU, and an Radeon R7 250 with 2GB GPU. I’m targeting the ASRock 960gc-gs FX Bios version P1.70 for an upgrade. My goal is to install a BIOS from the recommended list, but it won’t boot properly. The system powers on with fans spinning but there’s no sound, the CPU isn’t recognized, and I’ve tried P1.40, P1.60, and the current P1.70. Everything else functions fine, and I’ve reset the CMOS after each flash. I’m really confused about what’s causing this issue and would appreciate any advice or help. Thanks. Manteray
Also consider getting a used Ryzen instead of upgrading this device. FX has poor IPC and falls behind the first generation core, it will definitely be outmatched by even a first-gen Ryzen.
It might just be a DOA CPU, that's what it seems. I'd go through the RMA process. But honestly, spending money on this platform isn't worth it. I'd save up and get something more recent. Welcome to the forum.
Thank you for your response. Although the CPU comes from an older system, my upgrade is aimed at boosting overall performance rather than gaming specifically. I plan to assemble a new PC with modern components later this year for gaming purposes. Regarding the issue at hand, it seems unlikely the CPU will be faulty upon arrival, though it remains possible. At least I hope to investigate further before returning it.
