The bios doesn't need a driver to display an image , How do you think you configure a pc from new? Have you tried moving the gpu to the lower x8 slot on the motherboard? Also while your there check and make sure the pcie cables from the psu are inserted correctly on the psu side and the gpu side. There's a small chance when you used sleep that something just happen to have happend unrelated , it's a very small chance but not impossible.
