Your HP ZBook 15 is showing LED indicators on the caps lock and num lock that repeatedly blink in a cycle of three blinks followed by a pause, repeating this pattern five times. This behavior usually indicates a system error or hardware issue. It may signal problems with the power supply, motherboard, or internal components. Checking for power stability and consulting the manufacturer’s support resources can help resolve the issue.

It seems there might be an issue with the RAM. Consider opening the laptop and reinserting the RAM modules. If the problem persists, replacement might be necessary. Note: How long have you used this laptop? The warranty could still apply if the RAM is defective.

I attempted that and the laptop is no longer covered under warranty for about two years. I tried it myself and found it out of warranty as well. I’ll take it to a repair shop tomorrow. Appreciate the help!

Everything seems straightforward to fix, similar to replacing RAM, which usually isn't too costly. In the worst situation, there might be an issue with the RAM slots on your motherboard, but you can't be certain until you try it with different RAM.

It's strange he mentioned taking it to a repair shop before you shared this. He said the motherboard had significant corrosion and needed an IC replaced, costing a lot of money. When I opened it, there was no corrosion on the board—just a bit of rust on the heat sink. Now I'm really puzzled.

If the technician believes the motherboard is corroded, it might be leading to RAM slot issues, making the repair more complex. On the other hand, if he thought replacing the IC would solve the problem but it didn’t, you should address the situation. Consider whether the computer previously displayed the same three-blink error before repair or if the code changed after the IC was swapped.

I wasn't repaired; I was just diagnosed. It seems someone might have attempted a fake repair and charged for it.

I inspected the motherboard personally and found no signs of corrosion.

It seems like the issue is similar to what I expect. Right now, I’d just follow the error code and try installing some new RAM. To avoid spending too much on potentially ineffective upgrades, consider getting a budget-friendly 4GB kit and see if the laptop starts. Be sure to check your laptop’s RAM type—don’t mix LP DDR4 with LP DDR3. If you share the exact model number, I might be able to identify the correct specifications for you.

It requires DDR3 SODIMM. My friend might have extra modules. I’ll check with him tomorrow.
