Received a new ASUS Vivobook X540MA with a Celeron N4000 CPU. When connected, it runs smoothly up to 2.5 GHz and performs well. Disconnecting causes the CPU clock to plummet to 0.79 GHz instantly and the system freezes. BIOS update and power plan changes didn’t resolve the issue. Any advice would be appreciated!

Could we find a method to boost the CPU power when it's not connected? Otherwise, it seems stuck without electricity.

On laptops, Windows 10 often hides the High Performance power plan. To reveal it, launch a command prompt and enter the command. powercfg /s SCHEME_MIN To switch back to the Balanced power profile. powercfg /s SCHEME_BALANCED

I actually have the High Performance plan enabled. Sadly, everything else seems stuck, and based on what I found, it looks like the CPU limitation is built in, with no options in Windows or BIOS to change it.

¿Lograron resolverlo?

I know old thread, but I was curious (because I recalled that differently) of course a laptop will downclock when on battery... but only at idle, if it's doing something - like importing a movie in Windows™ movie maker® it will boost to whatever its boost is, usually the thing that makes a laptop throttle is the same as any computer, temps. laptop plugged in while "idling" ignore the HDD thing, there's no difference when it doesn't do that... laptop on battery, actually doing something (movie maker) laptop on battery idling... my very sophisticated "5 seconds common sense power settings"

It's unclear how changing CPU power settings might influence BIOS behavior from the manufacturer. Not every laptop uses throttling; you haven't tried running GPU and CPU together at once.

Yeah, I didn’t verify the CPU settings either. Nothing too complicated... Oh, I tested both—there’s a screenshot from the movie maker using the Intel GPU—but only have Heaven installed and it wasn’t working. Usage was around 16%, 0.8 GHz, VSync off, about 22 fps.

This thread is quite old, and it's your first here, but it might be useful. I experienced the same issue with my CPU freezing at 0.5 GHz. Switching off and plugging in the battery while charging resolved the problem. My laptop doesn't have a removable battery; instead, it uses a button to do that.
