Device frequently shutting down unexpectedly during power-off sequence
Hey there! I've noticed a strange issue with my gaming laptop lately. A few weeks back, whenever I leave it on for over an hour, it goes into sleep mode but plays the keyboard's sleep animation without responding to any key presses. The WakeOnLan feature also fails to appear in the program. Interestingly, unplugging the power cable makes the keyboard's RGB lights turn off after a while and stops the sleep animation. It seems like the laptop gets hot, and this happens with all fan settings—some have throttling, others run fans at full speed, and one keeps them on all the time. The only way to get it back is pressing the power button for 15 seconds. Once I turn it on, the GPU temperature jumps to around 75°C or higher, while the CPU hits about 98°C. The heatsinks are saturated because the fans aren't spinning. It’s confusing—could this be because the system thinks it’s too hot and is preventing startup to avoid damage? I’m really unsure how to fix this and would appreciate any advice before it causes more trouble.
Verify if a BIOS update exists for your device, either on the manufacturer's website or through their update tool, ensuring it hasn't been removed.
I believe it was recently updated and I added it. I checked my smart power outlet and it showed the laptop drawing 3W after it powered down, but later the fans kicked on for a short while and then the usage jumped to 45W, with the heatsink getting very hot after an hour. It seems something is happening during sleep even when the fan settings are off. Edited December 12, 2023 by DreamCat04 Spelling mistake (phone keyboard moment)
Consider reverting to the earlier version and testing again. This may clarify whether the issue stems from the update or a random error.
I lost track of when it began; my confidence about the BIOS update has faded. The laptop is now three years and a month along, originally released around early 2020, which makes me think no more updates are coming and I usually installed them when they arrived.
