Device frequently powers down and turns back on unexpectedly.
Hey there, fellow tech geeks. Last week I assembled a powerful machine for a friend, and everything looked fine at first. But he keeps reporting unexpected shutdowns followed by restarts. It seems to happen without warning, regardless of whether he's working with high-resolution video or just browsing YouTube. We went through some diagnostics, updated the BIOS and drivers, swapped the RAM from Corsair to G.Skill, and even tried without a discrete GPU. Still, the issue persists. During stress tests, the system runs smoothly, but the CPU temperatures stay around 55°C—way too low for a 5950X under load, even with an NH-D15 GPU running at full capacity. Plus, after a restart, the RGB lights sometimes flash in a rainbow pattern. I suspect it could be related to the motherboard, a temperature sensor, or something similar. Anyone got any insights on what might be causing this?
Here are the specs of the build:
- Asus Pro Art X570
- AMD 5950X processor
- Noctua NH-D15 GPU
- G.Skill Trident Z Neo (128GB)
- Asus Strix 3080Ti or similar
- Corsair RPM1000X 2021
- Samsung 980 Pro 1TB for boot
- Samsung 980 Pro 2TB as work drive
- Samsung 970 EVO 2TB as fast storage
Start with the single stick. If the issue persists, replace it and repeat. If it still occurs, consider other components. Next, test with an SSD. Then, if possible, use a different GPU for comparison. Finally, perform a clean installation on an unused drive to check for software problems.
