About half an hour prior, I adjusted my RAM to one stick and attempted XMP optimization to reach advertised performance. At that moment, I noticed the CyberPower upgrade also provided two 4GB sticks from various manufacturers with distinct CAS latencies—though that’s not crucial. After restarting, I enabled XMP again and performed a few restarts. The system only displayed fans and lights; nothing appeared on the screen, and my KB+M RGB failed to activate. I also learned that holding the power button doesn’t fully shut down the PC—it just triggers a light on the motherboard during startup. The final action I took was switching the boot drive from the BIOS selection to an M.2 slot. I’ve tried re-seating the RAM and unplugging all USB devices, but the machine still won’t log in.
Specs: Windows 10 (64-bit), Ryzen 7 2700X, NVIDIA 3060Ti, G.SKILL Ripjaws 3200MHz, 1x16GB RAM, Gigabyte B450M DS3H, 2TB HDD, 1TB SSD.
Reset the CMOS to revert to default configurations in an attempt to regain functionality. If no dedicated button or header exists, remove the CMOS battery for 1-10 minutes according to your motherboard specifications. Afterward, if posting remains unavailable, reinstall the original RAM and retry. If issues persist, consult your motherboard manual to determine if a BIOS flash is possible in its current state.
I assume the CMOS reset was the reason I started working, thank you! Now I’m facing another problem where my computer won’t boot even when XMP is turned on, so I might replace the 2x4GB sticks in my setup. This goes beyond what I originally faced, but could there be problems with RAM overclocking when using just one stick?
It really made sense. I haven’t heavily boosted memory performance beyond just turning on XMP. You’ll likely see better results from a duel channel than from XMP alone, even with mismatched sticks. If you end up with compatible sticks later, it might be worth checking again. It could also point to an issue with the motherboard itself. A good thing is that if it’s working now, you can hold off and plan a future upgrade.
I expect to place another order for a Ripjaws stick soon, then check if XMP functions well with dual-channel. If issues arise, dual-channel 32GB would be ideal. Appreciate the help!
