I've just assembled a new PC and it fails to post when using XMP 2. Both the RAM and motherboard advertise support for XMP 2. After trying once, it didn't post for five minutes, then entered BIOS safe mode before resetting everything back to defaults. I've updated the motherboard's BIOS and verified the CPU settings are set to Intel defaults.

Your questions: Should you invest effort in getting XMP working with your current setup? Could attempting again risk damaging components? Would it be better to try XMP 1 instead?

Your specs: i7-14700K, Tuf Gaming B760, Corsair Vengence DDR5 RAM (32Gb x2), RTX 4070, Super Cores, AirMega RM1000e power supply.

What are your RAM specifications? Which XMP levels are enabled? I can't run the RAM at its maximum capacity even on my 12400; I had to reduce it from 3600 to 3500 Gear 1. Updated: September 28, 2024 by leclod

Some documents suggest that turning off XMP might slightly aid in preserving the condition of certain Raptor Lake CPUs. However, this isn't an official statement from Intel. It’s helpful that you’ve refreshed the BIOS and activated one of Intel’s profiles. Keep an eye on the upcoming updates next week or so for more BIOS changes—Intel has just released another microcode patch for these affected models. If you try using XMP, compare your performance with a no-XMP setup and run benchmarks. If you don’t see a significant improvement in gaming, it might not be worth the effort.
