I’m really worried about this laptop. The MSI katana 17 B12VFK isn’t recognizing either of my two SSDs, even after replacing the original one. I took it to a friend, wiped it, and brought it back, but now it won’t detect any drive in the installer. It shows up in the BIOS, but that’s about it. What options do I have?

Restart your BIOS to default configurations and verify it's operating in AHCI rather than Raid mode for the storage controller.

Check your boot configuration settings. Ensure the boot device is set to AHCI and not RAID. You can verify this in the BIOS/UEFI or through system settings.

You're feeling a bit confused about accessing that mode. Let me help clarify how to get there.

When searching for your background, you discover the settings related to SATA mode on MSI laptops using Click BIOS. Follow the path: Settings > Advanced > Integrated Peripherals, where you’ll locate the "SATA Mode" option to modify it to preferences such as AHCI or RAID.

You may need to obtain IRST drivers from MSI's website, transfer them to a Windows USB drive, and install them via Windows Setup. If this approach fails, turn off the VMD controller in BIOS by disabling the grayed-out option. You might have to access the hidden menu using: Right Ctrl + Right Shift + Left Alt + F2, which reveals hidden settings. System Agent > Intel VMD should then be disabled.
