I thought I’d wrap this up neatly. Everything seems to be running smoothly now, though I’m still not entirely sure why. I used your battery reset technique and after a few attempts it finally worked. The GPU is also functioning properly. I did observe that booting with the case fan LEDs connected didn’t succeed. After restarting the CMOS battery reset again—this time without the LEDs plugged in—it did. It’s odd since the fan LEDs aren’t very power-hungry, so maybe it was just a coincidence. I’ve managed to turn the PC on and off without issues so far, but I’m not confident I’ve fully resolved the problem (as others suggested my PSU might be failing).
