I recently purchased a new motherboard, CPU, and NVMe M.2 storage. The parts arrived, and I had already assembled the rest of the system before receiving them. Today, I installed the CPU and attempted to boot it. It didn’t start, but all fans and components functioned normally. I checked the debug lights and realized the issue was with the CPU. After removing it, I found some thermal paste on the pins and cleaned it using 99% isopropyl alcohol. I also cleared any residue from the socket. After blowing dried the CPU and socket, I tried turning it on again, but nothing came up—no fans or power. I suspect the motherboard itself might be faulty. Could the power supply unit be the problem?

Make sure your cables are secure, paying close attention to the CPU power connection. Inspect the CPU and socket for any signs of residue or damage. Since the debug indicates the issue is with the CPU, it seems likely the chip itself is faulty. Are you using new or refurbished components, and what model do they have?

The board and storage were brand new, though the CPU was used. It looks like a few pins might have been bent upon arrival—I managed to straighten them, maybe that’s why. There’s a small bit of paste left in the socket, but it should still work and light up the debug indicator again. I’m considering swapping out the motherboard and CPU just to be safe, since I think they’re still eligible for return.
