Good evening, I hope you're well. My PC has been having issues waking up from sleep mode recently. It needed to be unplugged and plugged back in repeatedly, then it started acting up more often—sometimes it wouldn't turn on at all. Now it barely powers on, just making a faint click from the power supply and a brief fan spin without any light. When I try to restart it, nothing happens, but plugging it in again makes the click again. I've cleared CMOS, re-seated connectors, replaced RAM and GPU, but nothing works. Occasionally it boots fine, but problems appear when I put it to sleep or shut it down. It doesn't behave when I restart the computer. Could someone help me? Thank you in advance.

Turn it off directly rather than placing it in sleep mode. Also, ensure fast startup is turned off.

However, many instances result in failure after startup.

Disable rapid boot, as it seems to be triggering a problem. Edit: Kindly provide your system specifications so I can assist further.

I just needed to return my board because it was behaving oddly—mostly failed post-installation without any video, and it took time to display the DRAM indicator. After two 16GB DIMMs worked well at full speed for months, except for occasional black screens when starting up, one DIMM is now in a temporary build with a 3600X and still functioning, while the other will stop POST without video. My board was supposed to be sent back today, but I haven’t received any details about the issue. It turns out the RAM kit I used wasn’t listed on the manufacturer’s QVL, and none of the kits supported that speed (3200) in that configuration. This has left me with a confusing situation.

Is it really a RAM issue?

In my situation, I believe the lack of supported RAM in an unsupported setup might have harmed the board, which then affected the memory. Alternatively, the memory could be unstable from the start. My point is, it could be RAM or the board itself. Do you have debug LEDs? Are they displaying anything out of the ordinary?

I don't believe RAM can harm the board; it might only cause instability. It should function properly when XMP is turned off or at a lower speed.

I noticed some issues with your system. The RAM isn’t lighting up when the PC starts, and after overclocking it didn’t resolve the problem even after resetting to XMP. You might want to check if the RAM is securely installed—loose connections can cause this. Also, consider testing with a different RAM module to confirm it’s not faulty. It’s possible the issue isn’t with the RAM itself but with how it’s mounted or seated. If you’re unsure, ordering a new kit would be a safe step. You mentioned CPU concerns too; mounting problems could affect performance, so double-check that.

B550i rog paired with R5 2600x, master cooler V650 SFX, crucial ballistix tactical tracer RGB 1x8GB (definitely familiar), Rx 480 nitro. I assembled this setup over a year ago and everything functioned properly.
