I’m looking at the available slots on the Gigabyte B450M DS3H. The manual mentions: Dual Channel Memory Configuration – this board offers four memory slots and supports Dual Channel Technology. Once installed, the BIOS will identify the RAM specs automatically. Activating Dual Channel doubles the bandwidth. The slots are split into two channels, each with two slots: Channel A holds DDR4_2 and DDR4_4, while Channel B has DDR4_1 and DDR4_3. For more info on setting up hardware, check GIGABYTE’s site.

The slots are marked during screen printing on your motherboard. They are typically the furthest slot from the CPU and the second slot from the CPU (When your motherboard has four DIMM slots)

But the information doesn’t align. Based on what I understood, we have two channels: A (DDR4_1) and B (DDR4_2). If I need to use just two modules, I should pick either A or B, but they recommend using 1 and 2 instead. That’s the confusion I’m facing. Yes, that’s the usual setup, but they suggest pairing 1 and 2.

You mount the memory on DDR4_1 and DDR4_2 slots

Need one stick in Channel A and another in Channel B, which explains the dual channels. Slot 1 holds Channel A, Slot 2 Channel B. You may place both sticks in Slot 1 and 3, but that leaves just one channel active, which isn't ideal.

They display this chart to illustrate the sequence. It shows the order as 4,2,3,1, which might seem confusing compared to the standard 1,2,3,4.

I've assembled multiple machines using the Gigabyte B450m DS3H motherboard. Its dual channel setup has two channels labeled 2 and 4, with the two grey slots being the right ones. Among the four slots, there are two black and two grey, the grey ones are the correct ones.

The image provided shows a reference layout. From left to right, it appears as 1-4, with the far left being slot 1 and the far right slot 4. These are typically the dual channel slots found on most motherboards.
