Details on the latest installation, account needs, and internet demands
At the start of W11 there was an option to install the 'Pro' version, which let you proceed without needing internet access or creating a Microsoft account. That situation no longer exists, and it's unclear how long this will last... so here we are.
I finished setting up parts of a build I already had and wanted to verify everything before the return deadline approached. It was good news that the system started up properly, but not ideal since the Pro version forced an internet connection and required a Microsoft account login to continue.
To save time, I logged in with my own account. The new owner didn’t realize they were taking over, so I didn’t ask for their credentials. This instantly synced all my bookmarks, favorites, and preferences—without letting me disable the sync. I spent the last hour or so trying to revert everything back to a local account and undoing the changes.
Someone has experience with a simpler approach? Should I create a dedicated builder account without extra preferences? I’d appreciate your thoughts. It bothers me to spend extra time fixing things that shouldn’t be part of the installation process.
Install without an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi...no internet connection whatsoever.
Halt when reaching the section about requesting accounts.
Once the new owner restarts, the system will finish the setup, prompting it to ask for all the necessary information.
How to set up and log into Windows 11 without a Microsoft account Keep your local account active on your Windows 11 device. Have you gone through this before in April? Eventually, I’ll encounter similar needs, so I’ve been keeping up. I’m still using Windows 10 now. Updates for Windows 11 appear to be shifting often. I’ve gathered a lot of details online, though most are from 2022.
Hmm, interesting. I will have to try this on my next install. I can tell you for sure that there is no option for bypassing this within the install console.
When you review the link shared by @Lafong, it appears to be right after confirming your location and keyboard preferences. There was an attempt to use accessibility options, but it didn't result in any additional access.
I understand your concerns about system stability and the need for further clarification. As a possible compromise, I could carry out all my own testing and then perform a reset to display the startup screen. This approach may not be ideal, but it could be practical.
Right.
If you're also considering new build system stability, then it's advisable to complete the entire installation and verify the system.
Maybe then, perform a complete reset and a final setup for the end user.
I've never really appreciated the 'reset' feature.
