I own an outdated Dell machine featuring an LGA775 motherboard, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and three GB of RAM. The original PSU appears to be faulty—it would power on briefly before cutting out completely. I’ve verified the power cable functions properly. To resolve this, I opted for a replacement power supply. While browsing, I found a Zebacronics 450-watt PSU but am uncertain about its fit for my setup. The link provided (https://amzn.eu/d/9y77se7) concerns a product I’m considering, and I’ve attached the previous PSU for reference.

Even though the new power source fits physically, it might not function without adapter cables. Carefully match the motherboard power connector (P1) with the typical ATX power connector. If they match precisely, the supply you locate could work. You might need to search for another compatible unit or the Dell part number H059N.

Your computer is essentially outdated junk—why waste time buying another bad power supply? Get a fresh PC instead.

I thought the budget was an issue because they connected to a power source that costs about $8 USD.

Capitalist industry is really problematic, but it affects more than just PC hardware. Living in cramped spaces isn't the only answer—using a horse cart or even an old VGA monitor can be practical and eco-friendly. But those ideas are just outdated thinking.

The frequency and real results aren't linked in a straightforward way.

The power source you referenced would indeed function as a substitute. At that time, Dell equipment relied on typical ATX power supplies featuring the usual connector.

IPC also saw a significant increase, meaning a brand-new chip could be twice as powerful as a 20-year-old one. It's also more efficient because it uses much smaller chips—5nm versus around 60nm.

You can purchase PSUs from DELL directly or on eBay, but I’d treat it as a relic... outdated for modern use. Core 2 Duo launched in 2006... most Dell, HP, and Lenovo models were exclusive systems back then, possibly including Compac too. Everything was designed to meet manufacturer requirements, so nothing standard would work now. The only components you might salvage are the CPU, RAM, or GPU if they’re standard. Most of the rest won’t fit current, standardized hardware. I’ve worked with a Dell XPS 700 before—I know it—and I’ve repaired many Dell and other brands over the years. Building PCs is more affordable, but finding compatible parts isn’t easy. Usually, you’re left with just the core parts or proprietary connectors that could damage your system if swapped.
