I used three distinct systems regularly: an M1 Macbook Air, a Dell Latitude 7530, and a gaming PC with an R5-5600x and RTX 3070. The dock connects both laptops easily, but it fails when linked to the main PC. I thought it would function like a standard USB hub if used on a regular USB-C port. That assumption might be incorrect. There could be other issues such as driver conflicts, power delivery problems, or cable compatibility. Consider checking connections, updating drivers, and testing with different cables.
It’s probably a Thunderbolt dock, not backwards compatible with standard USB. Thunderbolt uses its own data signals. These docks often include a full PCIe USB controller, making them more than just hubs.
I thought Thunderbolt docks function like USB hubs when connected to standard USB-C ports. My idea was to use a KVM to switch between sending signals to the dock and the computer.
