What is the newest and quickest Intel Core i7 chip I can add to my old Dell Vostro 3750 that has an older 2.5 GHz processor?
Your current CPU is this: Intel Core i5-2540M (with 3MB cache, running at up to 3.30 GHz). Here are the specs from Intel. The website links tell you more about it. This machine uses a 35W power limit. Although some manuals say your laptop can handle an i7 processor with four cores, nothing in the docs says that it works. Dell was bad at keeping up with tech changes back then and didn't list which parts were actually okay to use. If you try something not on their list, you won't turn on the computer properly. I'd suggest sticking to a second-generation Intel mobile processor because its chip set is HM67, but in 2023 that's super outdated for what your laptop does today and doesn't have enough power for normal stuff or apps.
