I upgraded my Dell Vostro 230 with new parts. It now has 4GB DDR3 RAM, an SSD, a K600 motherboard, and an upgraded PSU. The CPU is a Q8400 with 2.66GHz. I considered adding more RAM to 8GB but found the maximum supported is 4GB on their site. I checked forums and saw some discussions about using 8GB with certain RAM models. With a budget of $65 CAD, I need advice on what to purchase.

The stock board supports up to 4 gigabytes, but adding more RAM will cause a loud beeping noise. You might consider using a different ATX 775 board to fit the required capacity.

It's odd since I own the same Dell Vostro without the upgraded power supply, and I'm using an Nvidia GT430 with just 1GB RAM. I managed to fit 6GB DDR3 into it, but when I tried 8GB it kept beeping. I’m sure 6GB DDR3 works fine and I’m running BIOS version 1.3.0.
