Dell T5820. 2133 MHz RDIMM from Dell R430. Viable option?
I recently lost my Dell T5810 in the basement lab. The details aren’t crucial, but it was my responsibility—don’t forget that. What really lasted was the power supply. This project needed some special specs: a decent 4 to 6 core CPU, at least 64 GB RAM, two PCIe x16 slots, and one PCI slot. Since the T5810 isn’t compatible with Windows 11, it seems like a poor choice to upgrade. I’m considering a lower-end T5820 from eBay. I have 96 GB of ECC DDR4 from a Dell R430 that’s been disassembled—only 2133 MHz DDR4 (part number M393A2G40DB0-CPB0Q). The T5820 is designed for 2666 MHz RAM, but I’m not sure it’ll work with this particular setup. The datasheet isn’t very clear, and my memory on memory compatibility is fading (DDR3 was still standard back then). If anyone has another suggestion besides the T5820, I’d appreciate hearing it, but I’d rather save time and money than waste it on something that won’t fit.
