Just to provide background, my laptop battery ran out, so I connected it directly to the power source. After taking it out, I observed that the device doesn’t get as hot as before—its peak temperature dropped from around 80-90°C to about 70°C. I also noticed gaming performance slowed down after removing the battery, so I thought adjusting settings might help. I tried these changes: cleaned the system, set power plan to high performance, and used throttle stop to raise the power limit. Now, when using throttle stop, the maximum power usage is about 25W. This seems related to how the laptop handles performance. Here are the settings I applied in throttle stop, along with my log file from running several games. It will take some time before I replace the battery, so any advice would be appreciated. Edit 1**: I also see that the CPU’s maximum frequency is 2.8 GHz, even though its turbo can reach up to 4 GHz. Replacing the battery is likely the first step you should consider. Lack of a working battery often leads to this kind of extreme throttling. Despite having a 45W processor, your logs reveal power limits dropping to just 8W–10W. Dell updated their throttling methods after the 8th Gen release, using an embedded controller that sends low-power signals to the CPU. When the EC sets its power cap lower than these thresholds, ThrottleStop can't effectively help. The processor may even drop to as low as 800 MHz. It's disappointing for any machine to operate at such reduced speeds in 2022. Only Dell laptops seem prone to this problem. Be cautious when choosing another Dell model—this could be a sign of deeper hardware limitations. Hopefully, a fresh battery will improve things, but I remain skeptical. The performance drop is expected, and fixing it often isn't straightforward.
